Animals are able to express themselves without words. A simple look can show what kind of mood they are in. I feel that cats are overflowing with personality, and they will let you know if they are happy, sad, or mad with one look.
I am working on finding my artistic style and voice within my work. I have always found comfort in photographing animals, so I decided to go to the Humane Society to photograph the cats there. I really let lose with these photos while I was shooting them. Instead of constantly worrying about what other people would think of my photos, I took them and edited them how I wanted too, and I am happy with my results. The photos are simple yet intriguing when I look at them. I have the stereotypical up close shot of a cat’s face/eyes, but I tried to work with the color in the eyes to make them unique in their own way. The amount of depth that is in a cat’s eye is absolutely fascinating and I wanted to bring that to the viewer’s attention. I am extremely proud of my devilish looking cat, because I feel like I got the creepy/soulless mood portrayed perfectly. I have always had issues with getting strong emotions across in my photos. In this photo particularly I wanted it to be slightly intimidating to the viewer. I wanted them to feel uncomfortable with the colorless eyes that seem to be staring into their soul. I expressed myself quite a bit with this one photo and I am very proud of it. I have finally been able to get a strong and definite mood across to the viewer. Each cat has their own personality showing through their eyes, whether its them being strong, wise, evil, unique, poise, or just being curious, they all have their own individual personality.
